we're awaiting president obama's new gun control proposals. the president is expected to caller to the most sweeping changes to gun laws in years, if not decades, prompting concerns among supporters of gun rights in this country. good morning to you. i'm jon scott. jenna: i'm sure glad you're not stuck between two walls. that would put a damper on the show. jon: would make it difficult to get here and do the research. jenna: we'll try to get answers on that story. hi, i'm jenna lee. in less than an hour the president will outline his efforts to curb goon violence. he is expected to ask congress to ban military-style assault weapons. many of you have questions exactly what those weapons are. we'll talk a little bit about that in the program. also on the list, suggestion to ban high-capacity magazines as well. the white house also made it clear the president will act unilaterally where he can to achieve this agenda. this comes in the wake of the massacre at sandy hook elementary school in connecticut. a tragedy certainly no one wants repeated. h

were there any technology lessons to be drawn from this year's election? >> it is always hard to reason. the winners get to write history. the losers think about the next election. there is no question the obama campaign had a technology strategy that helped elect the president. there were targeted programs to get out the vote. to me, the way to say this is governments are going to change, too, because governments spend an awful lot of time delivering service, and now we can measure them. if you ask me to donate money, we can now check to see if that money actually got their. another check and balance on the corruption-major things. we can test the effectiveness of programs. to give you some worries some examples. governments can know where people are and figure out what people report that they are doing versus what they are really doing. there are all sorts of worrisome scenarios that you can imagine. the slippery slope. i will give you one in britain. in london, when you're walking the streets, you were on the camera. those cameras are protected by law.

is that good play by obama? >> well, in the first four years of the -- of his administration, the first term, his great job was to keep the financial sector from collapsing. so he had someone intimately familiar in tim geithner with wall street. in the second four years his great job is balancing fiscal issues, and he has in jack lew somebody who, as eleanor said, knows the budget up and down, tremendous respect, a great negotiator. keep in mind, jack lew is something that people don't understand. he is a liberal fiscal hawk. he's a liberal deficit hawk. he's got very strong views on the safety net and funding of government but he really does believe in doing what can be done to reduce deficits ?ee.'s coming at that time beginning of president obama's second term. second terms are rough. they eventually lead into lake duckery. people jump ship who are working for him. sew needs a strong group to handle the deficiencies that are inherent in a second term. you understand me? >> i understand. i think that's right.
